Sohar Aluminium (SA) celebrated on 31/08/2014 the conclusion of its Summer Students Training Program (SSTP) 2014 in a graduation ceremony held under the auspices of Dr. Khalifa Al Jabri, Member of the State Council and Head of the Civil Engineering and Architecture Department at the College of Engineering, Sultan Qaboos University. The event that took place in Crowne Plaza Sohar saw the handing over of graduation certificates to 57 students who joined SA in July and undertook a 7-week internship across various departments of Sohar Aluminium.
SSTP is organized by SA’s Human Resources Development (HRD) Training Centre which offers accredited training courses from basic to more advanced levels aiming to develop workforce in Sohar Aluminium while enhancing the skills base in the Al Batinah Region. The Centre has received commendation from the Ministry of Manpower for its endeavors in helping develop the work skills of Omani youth, and providing interns with real work opportunities and the chance to engage with accomplished professionals who can offer their expertise into what the industry requires in the coming years.
Engineer Said Al Masoudi, CEO of Sohar Aluminium, addressed the students wishing them all the best for their future and advised them to work hard and stay determined to achieve their goals. He thanked all SA managers and employees who assisted the trainees during their internships.
During the course of the internship, students from various colleges and universities got a chance to put theory into practice and apply what they have learned in universities and colleges into a professional working environment. Participating educational institutions included Sultan Qaboos University; College of Applied Sciences Sohar, Ibri, and Rustaq; Sohar University; Shinas College of Technology; Caledonian College; Higher College of Technology Muscat; Ibra College of Technology; International College of Engineering and Waljat College.
The SSTP is held every year in line with furthering SA’s commitment towards education and training by creating an environment of learning both within the organisation and in the community.
Sohar Aluminium was formed in September 2004 to undertake a landmark Greenfield aluminium smelter project in the Sultanate of Oman and is jointly owned by Oman Oil Company, Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC - TAQA and Rio Tinto Alcan.
