Sohar Aluminium (SA) held a Graduation Ceremony at the Crown Plaza in Sohar for almost 70 students who joined SA in order to complete their summer internship.
The ceremony was graced by Honourable Dr. Khalifa bin Saif Al Jabri, State Councillor and Chairman of Civil Engineering and Architecture department at Sultan Qaboos University, and it was attended by Mr. Said Al Masoudi, SA’s acting CEO, along with members from SA management and workforce.
The internship course was held for a period of 2 months during summer, where senior students and recent graduates got the chance to put theory into practice, applying what they have learned in universities & colleges into a professional working environment.
This Summer Students Programme is held every year at SA in line with SA’s commitment to operate as members of the community, placing a huge emphasis on education and training by creating an environment of learning both within the organisation and in the community.
There was an early business decision by SA board of directors to offer proper training to SA entire workforce to ensure unanimity across the plant since they are dealing with technicalities that requires a high level of safety measures to be considered.
To this effect SA established its very own Training Centre which meets International standards and offers courses for its employees from basic level to postgraduate degrees. The SA Training Academy has received commendation from the Ministry of Manpower and it will be able to offer internationally recognised certifications in the near future.
This is a great opportunity to recruit, train and develop Omanis in order to operate, maintain, supervise and then manage the plant.
Since then and through a structured competency development program, SA has further enhanced the Omanization to its current level with 71% of its workforce are Omanis, working in all the areas and levels of the business.
During the ceremony, the acting CEO addressed the students wishing them all the best for their future and advised them to work hard and stay determined to achieve their goals, and the sky will be their limit. Said also thanked all SA managers and employees who assisted the trainees during their internships
