Sohar, Oman – In a glittering ceremony held on Monday, 20 June 2011, Sohar Aluminium was presented with an award for the “Most Inspired Dashboard” during the Infosol Business Intelligence Seminar (IBIS) conference in Dana Point, California, USA. The dashboard is a graphical tool that has been implemented as part of Sohar Aluminium’s Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) project. This is truly a remarkable achievement considering the fierce competition that consisted of 60 companies worldwide and the winner was decided based on the business benefit and ingenuity of their dashboard.

Sohar Aluminium has implemented a state-of-the-art MES system for its plant and this is used to produce shift reports on production and other key indicators. The dashboard has been designed using Xcelsius software and provides an easy-to-use graphical interface that provides the Management with up-to-date information on all aspects of the plant such as Production figures, Cost, Power consumption, Local spend and many more. Xcelsius uses data from excel sheets containing figures and produces graphs and other visual tools for quick analysis thereby providing a powerful tool for Business Intelligence. This is the first time that a Business Intelligence dashboard has been designed to use both automated alerting capability and write back functions to ensure forecasts are entered on time by the right people.

Sohar Aluminium winning this award is another milestone in the company’s vision to be the best smelter in the world.
