As a part of its efforts towards creating opportunities for its employees and promoting active and healthy lifestyle through physical exercise, Sohar Aluminium recently held its annual Fun Run and Walk. The event, which was organized by the Communications Department, saw around 600 employees and contractors along with members of their families and a group of students and staff from Al Batinah International School (ABIS) taking part in its activities. Participants took this opportunity to get together with colleagues, friends and family members, in a competitive and enjoyable atmosphere and spend quality time together outside working hours.
The participants were divided into two age categories; adults and children and competed in the running and walking races. The races ranged between 4 and 8 kilometers long. At the end of the event, a medal awarding ceremony was held to honor the winners. Engineer Said Al Masoudi, Sohar Aluminium’s CEO gave a speech at the ceremony in which he thanked the employees and their families for their participation, and urged them to maintain a healthy lifestyle and utilize their free time to practice sports and be physically active .
This event is one of the most important and anticipated entertainment activities that are held by Sohar Aluminium for its employees and their families and has firmly established itself as an annual event on Sohar Aluminium’s calendar since 2011. It always witnesses a high level of participation and engagement by the attendees.
The company also recently launched the “Sohar Aluminium Walking Club” as a part of its healthy lifestyle campaign, organized by the company’s Medical Team. Members of the club undergo an initial medical examination prior to their participation in the walking activity. They would then meet after working hours every day to walk in a designated area for around 1 hour. The Club’s activities also include providing health tips about the best daily practices to maintain physical fitness and avoid chronic health problems.
Sohar Aluminium puts its people first, and every year creates an annual plan for activities and initiatives revolving around the employees, their families, and the community. These activities are part of a series of engagement activities targeting key stakeholders and aim to give a human face to the Industry. They also form good platforms to share the company's values and messages.
Sohar Aluminium was formed in September 2004 to undertake a landmark Greenfield aluminium smelter project in the Sultanate of Oman. It is jointly owned by Oman Oil Company, Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC - TAQA and Rio Tinto.
