Sohar Aluminium hosted last Wednesday, 21st March, the Gulf Aluminium Council’s (GAC) eighth annual dinner in Muscat. The event brought together around 250 regional and global aluminium Industry leaders, technology providers, power generation manufacturers and traders to celebrate their successful partnerships and reinforce the Gulf’s strong position in the global metals market.

Welcoming the guests and commenting on the aluminium industry, Mulham Al Jarf, Chairperson of Sohar Aluminium said: “It is a great pleasure to share with you this dinner to celebrate an industry that holds so much potential for our country and the Gulf.  Our bold plans are coming to fruition and are culminating in the solid growth of the aluminium industry. And your presence is a demonstration of the confidence you have in the Sultanate’s economy, its capacity and its future.”

 Mahmood Al Daylami, Secretary General of the Gulf Aluminium Council said, “The GCC Aluminium Smelters produce 5.27 million tonnes of primary aluminium per year, which constitute 10% of the world’s total production and is expected to reach 6 million tonnes a year by 2020. The GCC will continue to be the leading and most reliable producer of quality aluminium while maintaining its leadership for sustainability and social responsibilities.”

Over the years, the GAC has not only supported aluminium production growth in the Gulf but also assisted in setting universal standards for safe work practices, protection of the environment and safeguarding the well-being of employees and communities. Organised by the Gulf Aluminium Council, this annual get together takes place in different countries every year and is considered one of the most important aluminium gatherings in the region.
